Dr Knox Chitiyo  (1961-2026)- a significant figure at Chatham House and well- respected president of the Zimbabwe Britain Society

Dr Knox Chitiyo, one of Zimbabwe’s best respected academics, died on Sunday 6 September 2026 after a long battle with bowel cancer.

He was 65.

Knox Chitiyo was the President of the Zimbabwe Britain Society from 2015 until the time of his death.

He was also an associate fellow at Chatham House, the London think- tank on foreign affairs.

Because of his inside knowledge about business and political developments inside his mother country, Knox Chitiyo made a useful – sometimes vital – contribution to the way the British authorities handled issues between the two countries, first under the rule of Robert Mugabe, now under the control of Emmerson Mnangagwa.

This website pays homage to a great African whose profile in London was low but whose contribution to Britain’s understanding of Zimbabwe was great.

He will never be forgotten by the men and women who run Chatham House, or by the handful of journalists he knew and trusted.
