Royals at work – shedding a fading magic for the millions from a balcony wrapped inside an egg-timer

Sources at Buckingham Palace tell journalists that ‘providing a testimony is now a matter for Andrew and his conscience.’  Are these highly-paid royal tub-thumpers living on the same planet as the rest of us, asks TREVOR GRUNDY –

Andrew’s conscience didn’t appear to be disturbed when at the height of the Epstein Scandal he was seen riding around Windsor Park and waving to members of the public

Buck Pal PR people don’t go in for day-to-day comments about the ex-Prince’s relations with Epstein.

But the  chances of Andrew jousting with his conscience and flying to America to give evidence about what he knew about Epstein and other  paedophiles?

Two respected commentators Stephen Glover and A. N. Wilson believe that whatever Andrew’s conscience tells him what -and what not – to do, the monarchy has been damaged, perhaps beyond repair.

Says Stephen Glover in the ‘Daily Mail’ on February 2, 2026 – ”  . . . the latest batch of allegations against the disgraced ex-Prince will deepen the public’s perception that he is an entitled, sleazy, greedy and seemingly untruthful person. He epitomises what many republicans hate about the monarchy.”

He adds: “King Charles must be wondering whether the torrent of allegations will ever cease.”

Polls suggest that support for the monarchy is dwindling.

Asks Glover -“What can the King do? Very Little . . . Charles might like to send his brother to the Tower but unfortunately that isn’t possible.”

A.N. Wilson said in the same newspaper (February 3, 2026) –  “The revelations about Andrew, Fergie and Epstein are among the most devastating to happen not just to the Royal Family but to the monarchy itself. I believe it could be in grave jeopardy as a result.”

And this: “Of course, the decent members of the Royal Family were not actually friends with Epstein: probably most of them had no idea of his existence. But, they have all been tainted by the Epstein scandal. And it is an ongoing scandal, thanks to its political implications in the US, which will not go away. Indeed, things can only get worse.”

Referring to the former Prince, Stephen Glover said: “Not since Edward V111 – who abdicated and colluded with Nazis – has done more to harm the Royals than Andrew.”

The headline over A.N. Wilson’s piece read – “How can we believe in magic of monarchy when faced with such greed and sleaze?”

People want the truth not more bullshit magic from the Royals and their advisers.

But watch out for what is coming.

Well publicised charity work revealing the indispensable role played by heart-throbs like William and Kate – even Andrew’s daughters.

They want to survive.

What else could they do for a living other than cut ribbons with scissors and head- up charities that remind us of upper-class concern for the poor.

Edward V111 and the ex-Prince Andrew have  something in common – both severely damaged the Monarchy

Glover’s reference to the damage done to the monarchy by Edward V111 might smack at truth.

The abdication was in 1936, three years after the king taught the future Queen Elizabeth and her mum how to do the Nazi salute.

The following year, Reuben Osborn wrote in ‘Freud and Marx – A Dialectical Study ’(Victor Gollancz, 1937) words that royals might care to read.

They are — “  . . . the authority of the ruling class has only justification while it is a necessary condition for the use and development of the productive forces. When a ruling class is no longer required for the further development of the productive forces, and begins to hamper them by compelling obedience to outworn social conditions, its authority loses historical justification. The weakening of its authority, shows itself in the arousal of those antagonisms which had been repressed in response to economic necessity.”

Fergie and Andrew: A couple of grinning and greedy fools who have so badly damaged the Monarchy

Might monarchy survive?

Of course it will. And for some time yet.

But for some (and not just royals in Britain) it will be living like the last grains of sand in an egg-timer.

Yet, still I hear whispers.

The royals here are different, I hear some say.

So, might today’s much-troubled royals keep heads down until the time is right and then hop onto the nearest RAF helicopter and return to the highest branches of the tallest trees where they belong?

Again, that’s possible.

Lenin commented- “The power of habit, ingrained in millions and tens of millions is a terrible power.”

But deep down, we all know something significant has happened since Andrew, Epstein, Maxwell and Mandelson.

Despite a million more apologies we all know in our hearts  that for us and the royals it can never be the same again.

There’s another ’terrible power’ just around the corner and questions are being asked in places where most royal PR people fear to tread –

‘Who do that lot think they are?’ and ‘Do we need any of  them  any longer?’
